mountain bike buying guide
what to watch for in mountain bikes
Don’t Settle
Settling with a cheap mountain bike is one of the biggest mistakes a new rider can make. Riders should expect to spend at least $800 on a new bike to ride on single-track trails (a common type of mountain biking). Bikes that cost less than that will not deliver a quality riding experience; they lack the proper components designed for the stress of off-road riding, and you'll end up spending more money at the bike shop to fix frequent mechanical issues.
Don't Overspend
Still, you don't need to spend $8,000 on a top manufacturer's model to have a good time on the trails. At a certain point, all components perform well, and any additional price increase only results in a weight reduction.
